Reiki for Our Furry Friends
Just like us, animals love them some Reiki.
In fact, they might even love it more. Animals by nature are sensitive beings, extremely aware of the energy of places, objects and people. Their responsiveness to the gentle nature of Reiki can be profound, due to its ability to work on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual sides that we all share - and that they are intricately in tune with.
Reiki is energy that is known to work "for our highest good", meaning that there is an inate intelligence to the energy and to the process. It will flow to where the animal (or human) most needs the assistance, which may or may not align with what we, their humans, think they need. One could hope to address a hip issue and afterwards actually find that volatile emotions seem to be calmed and a fresh mental outlook achieved.
Part of the value of Reiki lies in its ability to safely complement allopathic veterinary care. Always continue with the treatments recommended by your vet, knowing that Reiki can assist your best friend as they regain balance once again. Although outcomes can vary, many of the energetic shifts within our loved ones can be quite noticable. Possibilities include:
-
Faster healing times
-
Higher energy levels
-
Deeper sleep
-
Fewer side effects from medications
-
Fewer side effects from anesthesia and surgery
-
A renewed, youthful temperment
-
A shift in mental attitude towards joy, happyness and playfulness
FAQ's:
How often should my pet receive Reiki?
For smaller problems, one time per week until the problem is resolved.
For chronic conditions, at least one time per week for four weeks in a row is recommended. The sessions are cumulative, with the positive energy building upon each prior session.
For animals about to undergo surgery, Reiki is recommended once a day for 3-5 days leading up to the surgery, and once per day for a week following the surgery.
For our loved ones who are close to passing on, one session per day can help with the processing their dear souls need to do prior to making the transition to a place without suffering. Occasionally, animals who have been holding on for quite some time may even pass while receiving or just after Reiki. The peaceful energy can help them let go when their wise-selves know it is time to move on.
For regular health maintenance and to balance energies, one session every other week works best.
How long does an Animal Reiki session last?
This depends on a variety of factors, including whether the condition is acute or chronic, the degree of imbalance the animal is experiencing, whether other healing / medical interventions are being undertaken at the same time, etc. Due to their (sometimes) smaller size, pets can absorb Reiki like a sponge, sometimes taking all they need in as little as 20 minutes. On the flip side, a session could last as long as an hour and a half. Due to these variances, I find it easiest to charge one flat fee for an Animal Reiki session, no matter what the length.
Who can receive Reiki?
All animals! Cats, dogs, horses, guinea pigs, koala bears, lions, butterflies :)
Domesticated pets as well as undomesticated.
How does long distant Reiki work?
Reiki works on much the same mechanism as prayers do. Just as prayers know no bounds, the same is true of Reiki. One can say prayers for someone on the other side of the world and the prayer will be just as effective as if you were holding that person's hand. Energy is not held to the same time and space constraints that our physical world is.
In a long distance session, we will still schedule a time for the sending, but there is no need to take your furry friend on a car trip. He/she will receive from their favorite comfy bedding at home (or wherever they chose to be). During that time, I recommend allowing them as much space as they need to do what they need to do - rest, sleep, etc. After the session, I will email you a description of the session and what I experienced.
I am trained in Animal Reiki by the Animal Reiki Alliance.
